SUPPORTING HELICOPTER EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES SINCE 1993
The County Air Ambulance Trust was originally founded to help ensure the financial future of the first red Air Ambulance helicopter based at Cosford.
Since those early days, we have continued to offer financial support for the Midlands Air Ambulances and Great Western Air Ambulances, in the form of funding towards operational costs and infrastructure projects.
The Trust is proud, for example, to have funded brand new aircrew accommodation at RAF Cosford and Strensham on the M5.
And, through our HELP Appeal we are providing much needed helipad facilities at Major Trauma Centres and key A & E hospitals throughout the country. Please see www.helpappeal.org.uk for the very latest details on past, present and planned projects.
Reduced hospital building programmes, uncertainty within the NHS and a lack of cash, have resulted in delay and deferral, with only a very few hospitals having helipads and a number of these requiring updates. Secondary transfers from helicopters to road ambulances take valuable time – time that can be saved with proper helipad facilities.
Every second, of every minute, of every hour, counts whenever serious accidents or medical emergencies are involved. When the clock starts ticking off the minutes of the Golden Hour, the difference between life and death is often a fast flying helicopter with the most appropriate landing facilities in place.
The Charity does not receive any financial support at all from government or lottery funds, so we rely totally on the generosity of the general public, organisations and businesses to help us raise the money that goes towards saving lives.
